My photometric studies for the evening came to a dramatic end on a cold
March night in 1988. The counts on the photometer had been "odd"
from the start but when the brilliant auroral storm "hit" I had no choice
but to sit back and enjoy the show. The display lasted all night
- waxing and waning as the earth was buffeted by gusts in the solar wind.
By midnight or shortly after I "packed it in". A lost night's work?
You decide!
